I’ve written a lot about my fear and insecurities in connection with poly, so today, let me write about a moment of happiness and beauty.

Last week, sunshine came over again for her yearly visit, and she stayed at my kitten’s apartment. That in itself is beyond amazing. Here is my partner, giving my other partner a place to stay. Taking her in like family, and really that is exactly what it feels like. Chosen family.

When poly is good, it’s amazing. Back when I was in a closed quad, we had lots of problems, but at the same time I gained some unique experiences. My relationship with my metamour at that moment was the closest thing I’ll ever know to having a brother.

Right now, I again have an amazing metamour, and I love her deeply. I’ve found my family, and it’s just such an amazing feeling.

But back to the title. That moment of perfect compersion. It happened as sunshine was leaving. We had to get her to the airport by 6am, so there I was, sleepy and bleary-eyed. I’d downed enough coffee to wake myself up, and we were ready to go.

My kitten came out of the bedroom, still half asleep, but determined to say goodbye to her meta. They hugged, said the usual goodbyes, and then I heard them say “I love you”, and “I love you too”.

My heart could have burst right then and there. When poly is good, it’s amazing.
